Preparing for adulthood
From the age of 14 you can start to think about what you want to do after education. If you have an EHCP you can talk about this in your yearly annual review. These are the things you should discuss:
Education choices and what job you may like to do:
Education choices from 16- 25
- You can stay at your school's sixth form
- Supported internship age 19-25. You will need an Education, Health and Care plan because you have higher support needs
- Part time paid employment or volunteering
- Apprenticeships
SENDIASS can talk through your options with you. The SENCO at school & college can also support you
Other things you may discuss:
- Where you want to live
- How to keep healthy
- What support you might need as an adult. If you have a social worker, you can talk this through with them. They may also give advice about where to live and benefits
You can receive career advice from Elevate Me Wokingham from the age of 16.
